🇩🇪 - Partial Solar Eclipse in Brandenburg, Germany  (more…)

On June 10th, 2021, an annular solar eclipse occurred above the Arctic Ocean, which could be observed in Germany at noon as a weak partial eclipse. At my location the maximum coverage reached only about 13%.

The animation contains some interruptions due to clouds that blocked the view of the partially eclipsed sun. At high magnification, some mountains are visible along the lunar limb.

The eclipse was the 23rd of 80 events in the Saros cycle 147. I was also able to observe the previous 22nd eclipse on May 31, 2003 in Germany as a partial solar eclipse.

🇩🇪 - Comet C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) from Dusk 'til Dawn in Brandenburg, Germany  (more…)

On Monday evening I used another lens to capture the comet's reflection in the water. The night turned out to be very favourable for an observation. Continuous flashes on the right of the animation are caused by Brandenburg steelworks, a few kilometers away.

    🇩🇪 - Comet C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) in Brandenburg, Germany  (more…)

Again I managed to capture comet NEOWISE on Sunday evening. After the clouds disappeared, the comet became visible, slowly moving along the northern horizon. The night was cold, but someone made a fire close-by. The smoke is visible in the video in front of the trees. Before sunrise some faint Noctilucent Clouds appeared as bright patterns low on the horizon.
