    🇩🇪 - Comet C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE) in Brandenburg, Germany  (more…)

Comet NEOWISE became circumpolar in early July 2020. It developed a bright white dust tail, that spanned more then 5 degrees across the sky and a much fainter blue ion tail.

🇩🇪 - Transit of Mercury in Berlin, Germany  (more…)

The picture shows planet Mercury, which moved across the bright solar disk on November 11, 2019. Coincidentally, at the moment of exposure, a EuroWings Airbus A319-132 (EW5804) flying from Vienna to Hanover crossed the field of view. The aircraft was about 100km away over the Roßlauer Vorfläming. A few thin cirrus clouds obscured the bright solar disk in the background. I used a 1000mm Maksutov telephoto lens with Baader solar filter mylar on a Canon EOS 50D DSLR on top of an Astro5 mount with automatic tracking.

🇩🇪 - Partial Lunar Eclipse in Brandenburg, Germany  (more…)

Exactly 50 years to the day after the Saturn V rocket lifted off from Cape Caneveral, carrying Apollo 11 and the three astronauts Armstrong, Aldrin and Collins on their way to the first manned moon landing, a partial lunar eclipse could be observed from Germany.

During the first half the eclipsed moon was obscured by a large chestnut tree, later thin clouds passed through the field of view showing a strong iridescent effect. During the eclipse, the moon covered an 8.2 mag star in the constellation Sagittarius.

In order to be able to image the lunar surface both inside and outside the umbra of the earth, I have combined 2 shots each at 1/200 and 5 seconds exposure time as an HDR variant.
